What is the Rise Study?

The Rise Study is an international inquiry into risk, inclusion and psychological safety.

Led by Rachel Reimer (she/they), MA Leadership Studies, PhD candidate, this is a project of the Australian Centre for Culture, Environment, Society and Space at the University of Wollongong, New South Wales Australia.

The Rise Study is an in-depth interview-based study of 17 2SLGBTQ+, BIPOC, female or trauma-affected mountain guides and avalanche workers from Canada, the US, France and Switzerland. It is the first exploration into risk, belonging, and psychological safety from amongst marginalized voices in the profession, and brings their perspectives to the front and centre.

Findings will be shared in three separate academic journal articles. The first, sharing psychological safety findings, is available for free until October 18th, 2025.
